The Name of The Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is a highly engaging and well-written fantasy novel about the life story of its main character, Kvothe. The book fulfils expectations of the genre, but does not overly impress or present anything we have not seen before. The story moves slowly, focusing much on the protagonist's background, but is nonetheless gripping. The world is well-realised, and the magic system is unique. The main character is well-realised but at times seems overly-talented and unbelievable, and the end of the book leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Despite these shortcomings, the book is a good read and has potential to be part of an excellent series if Rothfuss can deliver on the promise he has made.
