Tenergy Battery & Charger Sets TN438 Editorial Review

The Tenergy TN438 Smart Battery Charger is a handy and stable charger that can charge 16 AA/AAA rechargeable NiMH/NiCd batteries at a time. The charging time depends on the battery's capacity and current charge level. The charger has two displays, each showing the status of 8 batteries. It will indicate if a battery is fully charged and also if a battery has gone bad and will not charge any more. One can swap out any batteries as they charge. You do not have to wait for all of them to be fully charged before removing the charged ones. However, some customer reviewers have raised issues with the discharge feature that didn't seem well thought-out and the instructions being vague about the different iCons. They also noted that even though there are two screens, the two halves of the charger do not operate separately. In addition, customers have complained about some batteries not charging and the charger being too sensitive and giving up on batteries that still have a lot of useful life left in them, rendering it impractical.
