Answer: They assist in lifting the rear hatch but you still need to apply effort. The car is primarily driven and used by a 65 year old woman. She has no trouble lifting the hatch door. -

How do you retract them to install. Mine seem to be stuck. Im a 230lb man and i try to squeeze it together and it feels like its going to break ?
Answer: If I remember correctly you have to lift the door up extra high and install them fully extended, the weight of the door will squeeze them. The ones I ordered did not work on my Ford Escape 2011. They kept popping off because they were not strong enough to lift the door. We ended up purchasing some from a local auto parts store, they were more expensive and heavier duty but work great! Just my experience. -
