    Answer: No, they slide onto the shelves. The shelf is what looks like the cover.

    Answer: The brackets that hold the frame to the refrigerator shelf are about 1/2” which makes it a more snug fit on a glass shelf with trim. It would definitely fit a wire shelf, though it may be loose, as a wire shelf will probably be around 1/4”. You could probably line the brackets with a piece of craft foam to take up the extra space. The egg holder is a great space saver.
