If you need a submersible pump, this is not the product you need. -

Can it be used as a drop-in replacement for the model 403?
Answer: While it appears to have very similar specs, there are some differences: (1) the 404 is physically smaller than the 403, (2) the 404L capacity is 4.3 gallons vs 403 capacity of 5 gallons, (3) the 404L has 2" connections, while the 403 has 1.5" connections (can use adapters or consider other 404 models with 1.5" connections), (4) based on the pictures, it looks like the connections are in somewhat different positions. Some re-plumbing may be required, but it should do the same job. -
